Five tower defence mistakes I keep making

June 7, 2026 · Matthias Keller

After enough tower defence games you'd think I'd stop making rookie errors. I don't. So here's the list I keep taped to my brain, in case it saves your run too.

First: overbuilding early. It feels productive to fill the map, but you starve your economy and can't adapt when a nasty enemy type shows up. Leave yourself room to react.

Second: ignoring range. A tower placed one tile back can cover twice the path. Placement beats raw upgrade level more often than people expect. Third: forgetting to sell. If a tower isn't earning its spot, sell it and rebuild for the wave in front of you.

Fourth: tunnel-visioning one damage type. Mixed enemies punish that fast. Fifth, and the worst: rushing waves for the bonus before I'm actually ready. Patience is a strategy too.
